70 Central Park West New York, N.Y.March 20, 1944My dear Mr Klein,Many thanks for your note of last month. I was glad to know that the Little Anthology of Canadian Poets I did for New Directions pleased. There have been some most favourable reviews, and there would seem little doubt that Canadian poetry is making good headway down here. I had a letter from B.K. Sandwell which says in part: "The presentation copy of the ’Little Anthology' has earned my deepest gratitude. It is an admirable piece or presentation and the matter contained is deserving of it ... I did not know that Klein was capable of such an impact as he makes with his two poems. You have a splendid group of peopleIt is good news to hear that New Directions is doingyour "Hitleriad". I shall be most grateful to have a copy.I see your name advertised for Laughlin's big Anthology "New Directions.” I hear from Toronto that my Penguin Anthologyis going into a third edition.Pantheon Books Inc. are doing a collection of my own poems, FLIGHT INTO DARKNESS, for September. All good wishes,

2 West 67th Street New York 23, N.Y.March 18, 1957Dear A.M. Klein,I'm completing a new anthology of Canadian poetry to be published by Penguin Books Ltd, later this year and would like to include of yours: THE STILL SMALL VOICE,PSALM VI, PSALM XII (from "The Psalter of Avram Haktani), AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL, THE ROCKING CHAIR, and BREAD. I have to have copyright clearance, Penguins go abroad so widely, and will write the various publishers concerned. But if "The Rocking Chair" Is out of print, it occurs to me that the copyright may have reverted to you. If the above is agreeable, would you advise :me?With warmest regards,Sincerely, home: 236 Querbes Avenue, Montreal office: 660 St Catherine St West
