The Nation ASSOCIATESApril 22, 1952Dear Mr. Gustafson:Thank you for sending me a review copy of Creative Writing in Canada. I’ll be glad to send it to one of our reviewers and shall hope to be able to run at least a short review. Space is at such a premium that it's hard to know how much can be managed.Sincerely yours,

New York 23, N.Y. April 24 1952Dear Desmond,I've now sent off the twelve copiesof CREATIVE WRITING IN CANADA with personal letters to:Atlantic Monthly (Charles Rolo)Sunday times (J. Donald Adams)Sunday Tribune (Irita Van Doren) Nation (Margaret Marshall)N.Y. Compass (Leon Edel)Virginia quarterly (Charlotte Kohler) New Mexico Quarterly (Ada Rutledge) New Yorker (Robert Henderson)Saturday Review (Harrison Smith)New Republic Yale Review Harper'sIt is, I think, a quality list-- and now we shall see. But I've already had a note from Margaret Marshall of the nation who has sent thebook out to a reviewer. So a fraction will probably respond.I've started a copy I got in Montrealand send best congratulations. It's a superb job I prefer your treatment of Pratt to Sutherland'sin the coming Northem Review The latter has written an excellent essay but. I think, has fitted Pratt's work to a Freudian argument and has overreached.Yes, it looks as if ray book of shortstories may set out before the year does. It will bo good to see all that work in the lightof day.All best wishes*Sincerely,

THENEW YORKER.No. 15 WEST 43RD STREETEDITORIAL OFFICES April 28, 1952BRYANT 9-82OODear Mr. Gustafson:Many thanks for the copy of CREATIVE WRITING IN CANADA. I have nothing to do with the selection of books for review — in fact, it's the magazine's policy to keep the departments quite separate in this respect — so I can't say positively that we'll be able to review it. However, I've sent it along to the book-review people. As you must know, our space is limited, but I know they'll give it very careful consideration. And I'll be glad, of course, to see some new stories from you.Sincerely,Robert HendersonMr. Ralph Gustafson 2 West 67th Street New York, New York
